British Historians and 1930s Spain

Join Dr Julius Ruiz, Senior Lecturer in European History (University of Edinburgh), Dr Nigel Townson (Univerisdad Complutense de Madrid) and Dr Stephen Rainbird (University of Edinburgh), each of whom has researched and taught the crisis of Spanish democracy in the 1930s that ended in civil war and General Franco’s long dictatorship. They will consider the significant role of British Hispanists in the historiography of the bloody 1930s in Spain before Franco’s death in 1975, the impact of their work following the restoration of Spanish democracy, and the extent to which they are more ‘objective’ than the Spanish counterparts.

Tickets (free) via the link.

Funding for the event was provided by the Spanish Consulate in Edinburgh as part of the Spanish government’s ‘España en Libertad. 50 Años’ programme to commemorate the death of Franco in November 1975 and 50 years of democracy.
